For Secretary Rice

Terror Art

This sacred spot
loved and picket at
for five years
will once again be filled
with brick, mortar, and
glass as if plucked
out of thin air.
Needs will be met:
the worship shrine
and a vainglorious
skyline will co-exist.

At 145th Street in the Bronx
a weathered American flag
hangs from a window ledge
held in place by a geranium pot.
On a nearby building
a graffiti homage to 9/11 souls
has begun to fade.
Someone has drawn a mushroom
cloud over the display
suggesting an unfinished
Hiroshima waiting final
terror art
coming from within.
